The aims of this study are to establish the nature and extent to which South African Baptists have suppressed the abilities and roles of women church leadership, to uncover through the stories and experiences of women and and men in the Baptist Union of South Africa (BUSA) and in the Baptist Convention of South Africa (BCSA) the attitudes and practices of local Baptist churches toward women in leadership, to propose the value of women in leadership by describing the significance of the full embrace of women in church leadership for the BCSA and finally, to seek to propose a strategy for the BCSA to bring to reality women's liberation and church transformation.
A member of a number of professional societies, Nelson Hayashida has authored numerous articles and three books: Stormy Road for this Pilgrim, Lasers of the Mind/Voices of the Soul, and Dreams in African Christianity: The Signature of Dreams and Visions Among Zambian Baptists.

Author Biography
Nelson Hayashida's Japanese-American heritage originated in Hawaii and was nurtured further in Southern California. He holds an M.A. (Baylor University), and M.Div. (Golden Gate Seminary), a D. Min. (Southern Seminary), a Ph.D. (University of Edinburgh), and a D.Th. (University of South Africa).
